Celebrating The Last Four Years

This month, Mike and I celebrated four years since we first met in an italian restaurant, five days after I arrived in Sheffield to start a new chapter of my life. Our actual anniversary was on 8th July, but we chose to celebrate together over the weekend, taking time to reflect on just how much life has changed in those four short years.

As we celebrated, I found myself thinking something that I never imagined I would say after everything life had thrown at me. This was that the last 4 years have been some of the happiest years of my life (and what Mike calls 'our golden years'.)

Meeting Mike reminded me that new beginnings are possible at any stage of life.

Over the last four years we haven't built a perfect life, but we've built a real one. One filled with laughter, ordinary routines, long walks, holidays, cups of coffee, faithful dogs stretched out beside us, conversations about the future, and countless small moments that have quietly become the fabric of a very contented life.

When I think about health and wellbeing, this is exactly what comes to mind. We spend so much time chasing the next milestone or believing happiness will arrive when everything is finally in place. Yet true wellbeing is often found in appreciating what is already in front of us.

Celebrating four years together wasn't about extravagant gifts or grand gestures. It was about gratitude for finding someone who makes me laugh every single day.

Gratitude for unwavering support as I stepped away from my NHS career, wrote my first book, launched SerenityHW, and found a new purpose helping others. Gratitude for quiet evenings at home, adventures away together, and the life we've created with Ernie and Bramble, who somehow make every day just a little brighter.

If there is one lesson these past four years have taught, it is this:

Never lose hope that life can become better than you imagined.

Here's to four wonderful years, countless memories, and, God willing, many more adventures still to come.

"The best chapters of our lives are not always the first ones. Sometimes they're the ones we never saw coming."
